2 in fake Viagra case agree to plead guilty
The U.S. District Court for the NMI has vacated all hearings and trial date in the case against two persons who were allegedly involved in selling Viagra-like pills on Saipan.
Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona on Friday vacated all hearings and the scheduled May 12, 2012, trial in the case after defendants Kwok Kwun Lee and Sook Lan Wong signed a plea agreement with the U.S. government.
Assistant U.S. attorney Garth R. Backe on Friday notified the court about the plea agreement. Backe requested the court to set a change of plea hearing on April 23, 2012, at 9am.
Manglona granted Backe’s motion and requested change of plea hearing date.
Lee agrees to plead guilty to count 4 of the indictment charging him with receipt and delivery of misbranded drugs. Wong agrees to plead guilty to a one-count information charging her with receipt and delivery of misbranded drugs.
According to the plea agreement, Lee, a Chinese national, on Feb. 28, 2011, received, delivered, and sold 30 bottles containing 30 100 mg tablets of counterfeit Viagra, to a confidential informant for $1,800.
Wong, a Malaysian national, on Feb. 15, 2011 on Saipan, received, delivered, and sold a bottle containing 30 100 mg tablets of counterfeit Viagra, to a confidential informant for $65.
