Deadline nears for participation in Bridge Capital art contest

Bridge Capital LLC is encouraging artists from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to submit their entries for the 3rd Annual CNMI Art Competition as the April 13 submission deadline draws near.
Administrative services manager Rowena Relado said in an interview that their office has been receiving a number of phone inquiries about the contest and several artists have already picked up forms at their office.
“We’re expecting that all these inquiries will translate to actual submissions soon,” she told Saipan Tribune.
The annual art competition, aimed at promoting and supporting local artists, is open to CNMI residents who have been living in the islands for at least one year.
The contest has two categories: grades kindergarten through 12 and open category for artists 18 years or older. Artists must submit an original artwork that can be two- or three-dimensional, has a local or island theme, and should not be digitally enhanced or computer-generated.
For this year, the international investment banking and asset management company headquartered in the Commonwealth has partnered with the Arts Council to have the art competition coincide with the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival.
Art submissions will be accepted until 5pm of April 13 at the Bridge Capital building in Garapan. A panel of judges composed of government and business leaders will evaluate the entries from April 16 to 20.
Cash prizes and gift certificates await the winners under different categories, which will be announced during the opening ceremony of the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival on April 21.
With the art competition now on its third year, Relado said the contest has been given enough exposure, which hopefully would encourage more artists to join.
“Bridge Capital believes in the remarkable talents of our artists,” said Relado. “We invite them to take part in the competition which endeavors to promote their works of art to the rest of the community.”
