M.J. Aldan posted his first monthly win for 2012 after ruling the Saipan Bowling Association/Fiji Water Prince of the Lanes tournament last Sunday at the Capitol Bowling Center.

Aldan, who joined his first Prince of the Lanes monthly event last month, but finished only second to back-to-back winner Marion McKenzie, this time topped the six-player field with his four-game total of 692 pinfalls.

The March winner started the weekend roll-off with a 187 in Game 1, slowed down in Game 2 with his 131, but finished strong with 197 and 177 pinfalls in the last two games for an average of 173 pinfalls and 45-pinfall lead over runner-up John Taisacan.

Taisacan was only the second youth bowler to knock down at least 600 pins, as he tallied 647 pinfalls (159, 164, 156, and 168) and averaged 161.75.

Completing the Top 3 was Ji Hoon Lee, who logged 572 pinfalls, just one pinfall ahead of Toby Verdaguer. Lee had his best score in Game 2 (176), recorded 116 and 132 in Games 1 and 3, and had 148 in the last game to save third place and earned a 143 average. Verdaguer collected 115,105, 193, and 158 for fourth place and an average of 142.75.

Ryan Batac and Angel Iglecias completed the field and nailed 522 and 488 pinfalls, respectively.

In the SBA/Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes, Percy Omechelang and Diane Camacho topped their respective foes over the weekend to claim the March honors.

Omechelang was the lone bowler in the men’s field to score at least 800 pinfalls (810) and he beat Jonathan Eparwa (789) for the monthly awards. Omechelang knocked down 200-plus pins in three games (204, 224, and 203) to add with his 179 in Game 3 for an average of 202.5 pinfalls.

Eparwa averaged 197.25, built from his 157, 225, 181, and 226, while third placer Robert Talavera recorded 188, 211, 226, and 157 for an average of 195.5. Both Eparwa and Talavera bowled last Sunday and failed to surpass Omechelang’s score, which was made last Saturday. Bowlers are allowed to compete in both days of the monthly roll-offs, but only the higher score is counted. More than 20 players joined the King of the Lanes event.

In the Queen of the Lanes, Camacho bested 12 other female keglers for her second monthly win.

Camacho, who defeated Yho Villavicencio in the February roll-offs, this time downed Ron Cal, winning by only five pinfalls. Camacho had a four-game total of 687 pinfalls (156, 194, 180, and 157) last Sunday, beating the 682 (158, 153, 170, and 201) Cal posted last Saturday. Cal also bowled last Sunday, but tallied only 602 pinfalls that was good for ninth place.

Rounding out the Top 3 was Gloria Omechelang, who collected 681 pinfalls last Saturday.
