SML 2012 season lures five teams
The Saipan Major League Baseball Association is eyeing to open the 2012 season on March 26 at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
So far, the league has attracted five teams, including last season’s runner-up Brewers, Fielders, Masters, D-9ers, and newcomer Gagu.
The SML has traditionally started each new season with a rematch of the past year’s final series, however they are prepared to make adjustments in the case of the defending champion Angels not being able to suit up.
The format of the game schedule is still being determined. Organizers are hoping to field six teams in a double round-robin format. Organizers are also tentatively utilizing a page system playoff format. The league is in need of corporate sponsors in order to expand the regular and post season arrangements.
Upon release of the official schedule, teams are required to submit their preliminary rosters prior to their first game.
Games will be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays excluding austerity days.
An organizational meeting was held Tuesday where roster and waiver forms were circulated.
Entry fee is $800 per team and checks are to be made payable to the SMLBA.
