Businesses pledge support for Project: PROM
Project: PROM of the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence is gaining momentum as local businesses have pledged their support for the cause.
Coalition program assistant Keala Peters said eight companies have already agreed to sponsor their campaign which aims to provide donated prom or special occasion dresses and suits to high school juniors and seniors, making prom night affordable for these students.
Sponsors include Handbags, etc., Nila’s salon, Makeover Salon, Serenity Salon & Spa, Dollar Days Wholesale Flowers & Gifts, Blossoms Floral, Unity Dress Shop, and Marianas Cleaners.
“Not only have we already received clothing donations, but we’ve also captured the attention of local floral shops and salons and dry cleaners. This will help us package the whole prom for the students,” said Peters, adding that the coalition is grateful for their assistance.
Peters pointed out that any small donation, whether a small corsage, makeup items, shoes, clothing or hairstyling, would be accepted since it will help the project and, ultimately, make students experience prom.
Project: PROM is part of the Sexual Assault Awareness Month celebration so recipients of donated items will be selected based on their interest in becoming an advocate against sexual violence or assault.
Donations for Project: PROM can be delivered to any of the following locations: the Coalition office located at Springs Plaza on Chalan Pale Arnold, Handbags, etc. along Beach Road in Oleai, Kagman High School, Marianas High School, Saipan Southern High School, and the clothing drive to be held at the Minatchom Atdao along Beach Road in Garapan on March 31.
Donated items will be distributed to eligible recipients on April 14. During the distribution, there will be a workshop to be facilitated by Teen Talk at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center from 1pm to 4pm.
