Woman accused of selling ‘ice’ near school pleads not guilty
A woman who was arrested last month by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents for allegedly selling methamphetamine or “ice” near a school on Saipan, has pleaded not guilty of the charges.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona on Friday afternoon advised defendant Yue Xin Tang of her constitutional rights and the charges against her.
Tang, who appeared with court-appointed counsel Loren Sutton and a Chinese interpeter, pleaded not guilty.
Manglona set the trial for April 23, 2012.
Tang was then remanded back into the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
According to DEA special agent Jacqueline R. Gordon, they were able to purchase $150 and $700 worth of “ice” from Tang using a confidential source on Oct. 27, 2011 and Nov. 9, 2011 respectively.
Gordon stated in her affidavit that, on Oct. 26, 2011, she and another DEA special agent, along with a Department of Public Safety Task Force officer, interviewed a DPS confidential source regarding the defendant’s “ice” distribution activities in Garapan area.
Gordon said the following day, using the confidential source they were able to purchase $150 worth of “ice” from Tang at a parking lot behind Bank of Guam.
Gordon said that, on Nov. 9, 2011, they managed to buy $700 worth of “ice” from the defendant using the same confidential source at a parking lot of 99 Cents Store.
