GCA, Whispering Palms, Tinian win
Grace Christian Academy, Whispering Palms, and Tinian High School posted the biggest wins of the week.
The GCA Eagles topped the boys junior varsity division of the COPSSA caging, beating Mt. Carmel School in the finals, 35-34, while Whispering Palms prevailed in the girls division, slipping past the GCA Eagles, 16-15.
Whispering Palms managed to reclaim the girls JV championship it lost to Saipan International School last year, while GCA notched back-to-back titles in the boys division.
Joining the two private schools in the champions circle was Tinian High School, which stunned its foes in the MISO caging, winning the varsity division crown against Marianas High School.
Still in basketball, regular season games in the DLX/Miller Lite caging continued with the Smart Cagers, Mobil, QQ Car Rental, Sunrisers, and Shirley’s Coffe Shop posting contrasting wins.
In badminton, the 2012 Tan Holdings Doubles Competition completed its elimination round games last week. Four teams each in the six divisions survived the elimination and played in the semifinals over the weekend.
In the Saipan Little League Baseball, the Braves, Comets, Falcons, JPO, and Rays won their separate games.
In football, MP United Silver went 2-0 in the boys U15 spring league, while Paire and Tan Holdngs also prevailed in their respective matches. MP United and Paire also triumphed in the boys U18, while Shirley’s beat Paire in the girls U15 league.
In off-island competitions, sprinter Rachel Abrams raced in the 60m run in the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, while triathlete Mieko Carey joined the 2012 XTERRA Guam Championship.
