Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has nominated James Diego Benavente to serve as a member of the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission in a letter dated June 21, 2017.

The governor believes that Benavente is highly qualified to fulfill the vital responsibilities of the commission.

Benavente is a civil engineer and has been working in government service since 2013, starting at the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and currently at the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality.

His appointment requires the confirmation by both the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth Legislature.

If confirmed, he will serve a four-year term, which became vacant on May 24, 2016, and will expire on May 24, 2020.
