In celebration of the 32nd Environmental Awareness Month, the regularly scheduled Bureau of Environmental & Coastal Quality Cleanup Brigade for April will coincide with this year’s BECQ EAM Islandwide Cleanup event scheduled for Friday, April 17, 2015, from 2pm to 4:30pm, and Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 8am to 10am. For more information on how to participate in this event, contact EAM Islandwide Cleanup event coordinator Aileen Benavente or Robert Deleon Guerrero at 664-8500.

The Coral Ocean Point Beach Cleanup had 32 volunteers participating. About 280 lbs of marine debris was removed from the beach and properly disposed of.

Volunteers included students from Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School/MY WAVE Club, Saipan Southern High School, Northern Marianas College, Homeland Security & Emergency Management Office, Commonwealth Utilities Corp., and Coral Ocean Golf Resort.

During last year’s Islandwide Cleanup, over 3,300 lbs of trash were picked up from our roadsides and beaches and properly disposed.

For more information about volunteering, contact the BECQ office at 664-8500/1. (BECQ)
