BECQ brigade to join islandwide cleanup on April 25

In celebration of the 31st Environmental Awareness Month, the regularly scheduled Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality Cleanup Brigade will coincide with this year’s BECQ EAM Islandwide Cleanup scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2014, from 2pm to 4:30pm. For more information on how to participate in this event, contact EAM Islandqide Cleanup event coordinator Ben Somol at 664-8500.
Last month’s Tank Beach Cleanup was successful with 27 volunteers participating. Thanks to students from Saipan Southern High School YEA Club, Northern Marianas College, Commonwealth Utilities Corp., and other volunteers, about 360 lbs of marine debris was removed from the beach and properly disposed of. During last year’s Islandwide Cleanup, over 4,400 lbs of trash were picked up from roadsides and beaches and properly disposed.

The BECQ is looking forward to a repeat success this year, so join BECQ’s Islandwide Cleanup and “Pick It Up!” Let us work together for the health of our coral reefs and cleanliness of our islands for everyone to enjoy.
