The American Memorial Park is inviting first to third graders on Saipan to participate in this year’s first Reading Ranger selection.

Over three days, Feb. 7, 8, and 9, from 3pm to 4:30pm, young readers will be guided through The Unbreakable Code by Sara Hoagland Hunter by a park ranger.

The book tells the story of a Navajo code talker and the important role of the Navajo language and people during World War II. Following each of the reading sessions, these Reading Rangers will have the opportunity to participate in fun and educational activities focused on the lessons of the story.

Reading Rangers is a youth reading program at American Memorial Park in partnership with Pacific Historic Parks. Throughout the year, the program will highlight different books for different ages that touch on the park’s mission to honor the American and Marianas people who gave their lives during the Marianas campaign of World War II.

To register your child, call lead ranger Brooke Nevitt or Jovanna Mafnas at 234-7207 or 2020. There are a limited number of spaces and participation will be determined by the date of registration.

For more information on events at American Memorial Park, contact Nevitt at 234-7207 x 2020 or via email at: brooke_nevitt@nps.gov. (NPS)
