Saipan Major League Baseball Association has circled March 26 as the opening day for its 2012 season at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

So far, this year’s field includes last season’s runner-up Brewers, Fielders, Masters, D-9ers, and newcomer Gagu.

The SML has traditionally started each new season with a rematch of the past year’s final series, however they are prepared to make adjustments in the case of the defending champion Angels not being able to suit up.

The format of the game schedule is still being determined. Organizers are hoping to field six teams in a double round-robin format. Organizers are also tentatively utilizing a page system playoff format. The league is in need of corporate sponsors in order to expand the regular an post season arrangement.

Upon release of the official schedule, teams are required to submit their preliminary rosters prior to their first game.

Games will be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays excluding austerity days.

An organizational meeting was held Tuesday where roster and waiver forms were circulated.

The entry fee to participate is $800 per team and checks are to be made payable to the SMLBA.

More details will be released next week.
