The Marianas Visitors Authority’s Beautify My Marianas program was an important part of last month’s Tinian Hot Pepper Festival, providing an opportunity for a local school group to support the festival while raising money.

The JROTC cadets of Tinian Jr. Sr. High School cleaned the festival grounds at Kammer Beach for two consecutive days, collecting a total of 115 bags of trash.

“Thank you for giving these kids the opportunity to assist in keeping our beach and tourist place beautiful,” said Army Instructor and retired 1st Sgt. Jose T. King in the group’s post-action report.

Participating cadets were: Keithley Marquez, Jemimah Cruz, Michelle Quichocho, Nicole Quichocho, Aira Cabahug, Kaeiliyah Nabors, Akiko Atalig, Rashmi Adhikari, Mariah Cruz, Renuka Shrestha, Amanda Jumao-as, Hannah Biton, Jovilyn Ancheta, Anna Lisa Santos, Marco Bautista, Archie Clemente, Justine Furton, and Jericho Lagunay

Beautify My Marianas offers $100 to student or other groups that pick up trash over 1-mile in an assigned area (payment may increase based on difficulty). For more information on Beautify My Marianas or an application, visit the MVA homepage at www.mymarianas.com. Groups must apply to participate and document their cleanup with a written report, list of participants, and photos. (PR)
