As expected, pennant and defending champions Chalan Kanoa Bears hauled the most individual awards in the 2019 Saipan Baseball League that concluded last Saturday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

Outfielder and designated hitter Ricardo Dela Cruz led the Bears’ top performers of the season, as he won the Finals MVP award after standing out in their finals sweep against the Mariners. Dela Cruz went 4-for-8 at bat, scored three runs, and had four RBIs in helping the Bears win Game 2, 14-3, and Game 3, 6-1, of the best-of-five title series.

The Finals MVP was also among the doubles champions in the league, joining teammate Kiku Lizama, Go See Mark’s Byron Kaipat, and the Mariners’ Ton Tenorio in the honor roll.

Tenorio was named the regular season MVP and got two more individual awards after topping the league in most triples scored and RBIs (10). The Bears’ A.J. Lizama, Henry Lizama, and Kiku Lizama, and the Mariners’ Nate Camacho also earned the most triples honor, while Angel Palacios, also from the back-to-back champion team, took the batting champion title.

The Blue Jays’ Noel Cabrera was the home run and strikeout king, while the Bears’ Virgil Secharmidal and A.J. Lizama ruled the league in earned run average and runs, respectively.
