Mitt Romney wins 87 percent of the votes cast in Saturday’s Republican caucus, picking up nine delegates from the CNMI.

Romney got 740 or 87 percent of the 848 votes cast on Saipan, Tinian and Rota from 7am to 7pm.

Rick Santorum came in far second with 53 votes or 6 percent.

Ron Paul got 28 votes or 3 percent.

Newt Gingrich had 27 votes or 3 percent.

Romney was the clear favorite, owing to the historic visit to Saipan of his son Matt and wife Laurie on the eve of the Republican caucus.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, chairman of the Republican Party of the NMI Association, endorsed Romney on Friday during a luncheon he hosted for the presidential candidate’s son’s visit.
