Falcons rally to tie Ol’Aces
Some mixed outcomes were produced this week after a slew of blowout results from last weekend as the 2012 Saipan Little League season continued at the Oleai Sports Complex.
In Major Division at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield, the IT&E Ol’Aces could not hold off a late rally by the Natibu Sports Association Tanapag Falcons in a barn burner on Thursday that was ultimately put on pause with the match stalemated at 6-all due to the lack of light.
In addition, IT&E’s self-titled squad defeated the Bank of Saipan Red Sox, 7-3, on Tuesday, just after the latter run-ruled the Natibu Tanapag Twins, 11-1, in four innings back on Sunday.
Over at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield, the Senior League’s Juan Santiago-Jets II bested the DPS Dare Program Enforcers, 9-4, on Sunday, while the Natibu Tanapag Falcons lit up Saipan Shipping Company’s Jets I, 14-1, on Tuesday.
MAJOR LEAGUE Ol’Aces 6, Falcons 6Ol’Aces held a 5-3 lead after four innings and starting pitcher Virgil Secharmidal exceeded his pitching limit after issuing a leadoff walk to start the fifth.
Jimmy Kapiat was tapped to secure the final five outs, but the Falcons managed a run off an error to pull within a run.
Ol’Aces came up empty in the fifth and the Falcons captured the lead, 6-5, in the top of the sixth on a pair of fielder’s choices that scored a couple of leadoff walks.
Believe it or not Kaipat would redeem himself with a big play at the plate to end the inning.
He stepped up to the plate to start the bottom of the sixth inning and airmailed a solo homerun to tie the game back up.
His teammate Secharmidal tried to follow suit, but Falcons centerfielder Ave Evangelista made a sweet over-the-shoulder catch at the fence.
The Falcons managed to fend off Ol’Aces throughout regulation, but the umpires declared the game to be suspended to a later date due to lack of light.
IT&E 7, Red Sox 3IT&E’s Nathan Kapileo led off with a double and scored off a wild pitch to break the ice in the opening frame.
The Red Sox contained IT&E in the next two innings, but the latter jolted ahead, 6-1, in the fourth off four hits including a pair of two-RBI doubles by Kapileo and Alan Hinson and an RBI double by Ivan Seo.
Kapileo was tapped on the mound by Harold Lee to close the final out of the fifth and he went on to hold the Sox to just two runs in their final stand.
Winning pitcher Kapileo gave up zero earned runs off two hits with two walks and six strikeouts in four 2/3 innings. He also batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs, and a base on balls.
Hinson swung 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a run, and a base on balls.
Red Sox 11, Twins 1A triple and an error scored Red Sox’s Jode Reyes and his team blew the lid off the game in the second inning to catapult in front, 9-0.
The surge was highlighted by a two-run home run by Delin Reusora and a solo shot by Ryan Aguon. However, a number of infield errors helped the Sox bat through its lineup.
The Twins managed its lone-run in the third inning, but the Red Sox responded with two runs in the bottom frame before starting pitcher Reusora returned to the mound and struck out the side to close up shop early.
Winning pitcher Reusora gave up one run off three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in four innings.
SENIOR LEAGUE Jets II 9, Enforcers 4Jets II took a 3-2 lead in the second inning from a RBI poke by Francisco Palacios and an RBI single by Jones Langu.
Jets II then added three runs in the third and another in the fourth, all from errors.
The count then shifted to 8-4 as the Enforcers’ Mathew Lisua pulled on a two-RBI base smash to start the fifth frame. Jets II got a run back in the bottom half from a base knock by Shane DeLeon Guerrero.
Jets II went on to add another runoff a wild pitch in the sixth and finished off its opponents 1-2-3 in the final frame.
Winning pitcher Jeremy Lizama went the distance and gave up three earned runs off five hits with five walks and seven strikeouts.
Jets II’s Isaiah Cruz batted 3-for-3 with two runs.
Falcons 14, Jets I 1Falcons pitcher Adolfo Roppul dominated Jets I on the mound and allowed just one hit in four scoreless innings before a slight hiccup in the fifth frame.
His teammates obliged with a seven-run burst in the third inning to put the birds ahead, 8-0.
Not that he need it, but Roppul received four more insurance runs in the fourth and a couple of more in the fifth before securing the early decision.
Roppul gave up one run off an earned run off one hit with five walks and seven strikeouts in five innings.
