USCIS hosts webinars for CNMI employers, workers
The Verification Division of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will conduct three public web conference sessions, also known as “webinars,” for employers and employees residing in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (March 20, 21, and 22) at 9am CNMI time.
As part of its continuing efforts to keep the public informed, officials from the USCIS Verification Division Outreach Branch will hold these webinars to help both employers and workers understand Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification requirements. Participants will learn how to complete, retain and update a Form I-9. There will also be a brief discussion on the E-Verify Program. There will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions by way of the Chat Feature.
All U.S. workers are required to present proof of employment eligibility to work in the United States and proof of identity to employers on the first day of work. Information from these documents is recorded on the Form I-9.
Form I-9 must be completed by every employer and agricultural recruiter/referrer-for-a-fee hiring an individual for employment in the United States, as required by federal law. As of Nov. 28, 2011, employers in the CNMI must use the standard Form I-9 for new hires.
USCIS is the agency within the Department of Homeland Security that handles immigration benefits. More information can be found at www.uscis.gov/cnmi. (USCIS)
