The 2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization’s high school boys basketball playoffs tip off at 10am today at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Five games are listed on the itinerary with necessary breaks held in between games; today’s final pairing is slated for 5pm.

The double-elimination postseason then concludes tomorrow at MHS with another five games starting at 8am with the championship taking place at 1pm. Organizers are prepared to feature an extra finals rematch, if needed.

The competing field features top-ranked Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays, the Kagman High School Ayuyus, visiting Tinian High School, the MHS Dolphins, the Grace Christian Academy Eagles, and the Knights of Mount Carmel School.

Due to ineligible players participating in a recent pairing between MHS and KHS back on Wednesday, Feb. 29, MHS forfeited its win and settled for the fourth ranking.

In any case, the six teams will exhibit an eight-team bracket format with the Top 2 seeds receiving a first round bye.

The opening round and upper bracket matches held thereafter, including the finals will be played under 10-minute quarters with the clock being stopped upon each whistle; lower bracket matches will be played under eight-minute quarters.

Today’s curtain raiser features MHS taking on GCA followed by THS challenging MCS at noon. The winner of Game 1 then must go through SSHS, while Game 2’s winner faces KHS. Then a lower bracket match finishes off the day.

The upper bracket semifinals kick off tomorrow’s action as the rest fight to survive.
