Another organization has stepped up to the plate for the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture as it gears up for the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival next month.

Tan Siu Lin Foundation has donated print advertisements that will help publicize the event as well as five hotel stay gift certificates at Fiesta Resort & Spa and the Saipan Grand Hotel that will be used as prizes for the raffle draw that will be held during the festival on April 20 to 22 at the Civic Center Park in Susupe.

Tan Holdings corporate consultant David M. Sablan presented the donation amounting to about $1,700 to the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival committee members last week.

The donation makes Tan Siu Lin Foundation an “Isla” sponsor, a sponsorship level bestowed on companies, organizations, or individuals that provide monetary or in-kind sponsorship from $1,000 to $2,000.

Foundation president Jerry Tan said they understand and appreciate the hard work exerted by the Arts Council and the festival committee in coming up with a “wonderful” event for the public “at a time when all of us are affected by the economic downturn in the islands.”

“This donation is our little token of support,” said Tan. “We look forward to the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival next month.”

Festival overall committee chair Parker Y. Yobei said that it’s companies and groups like Tan Siu Lin Foundation “that allow us to promote our talented artists who deserve nothing but recognition for their outstanding works of art that uphold our rich art and cultural heritage in the CNMI.”

Founded in 2002, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Tan Holdings Corp., the parent company of Saipan Tribune. It is named after founder and chairman Dr. Tan Siu Lin.

The Flame Tree Arts Festival is the biggest annual festival celebrating the rich art and cultural heritage of the Commonwealth and takes place usually in late April in time for the blossoming of flame tree flowers after which the event was named. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the event.
