Through the end of March 2012, courthouses on all three islands will be open with full operations except for some days when courthouses will have limited operations or closed down.

On Saipan, local courthouses will have limited operation on March 9 and March 23, 2012.

On days of limited operations, only essential services of the Office of the Clerk of Court, the Office of Adult Probation Services, the Family Court Division, the Marshal Service Division, and Judicial Chambers will be provided. Courts will address certain docket requirements, emergency and related prescheduled matters. The Administrative Services Unit (cashier), Information Systems Unit, Building & Maintenance Unit, Office of the Commonwealth Recorder, Law Revision Commission, and Judiciary Administrative Office will be closed.

The Rota courthouse was closed on March 5, 2012, while the Tinian courthouse will be closed on March 19, 2012, a Monday.

The CNMI Judicial Council has adopted these measures to implement a reduction of personnel work hours and courthouse hours of operation due to the limited financial resources provided to the Judiciary in the government’s budget measure for fiscal year 2012.

The council considers its hours of operation on a month-to-month basis to evaluate available financial resources, operations and the provision of judicial services during this period of austerity. The council will meet again on March 14, 2012. The hours of operation for April will be released shortly after the meeting on the CNMI Judiciary web site, http://www.justice.gov.mp/.
