Vehicle sales up 14 pct. in Feb.

Automotive dealers followed on their 43 percent spike in sales in January with a 14-percent sales increase in February.

The Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association said yesterday it sold 48 new cars, vans, trucks and sports utility vehicles in February, a 14-percent increase from the 42 units they sold during the same month last year.

CADA is hoping that the sales growth will continue for the rest of the year.

January and February sales posted a 29-percent increase from last year during the same period or from 26 to 31.

Microl Corp., the authorized distributor of Toyota and Chevrolet, sold 19 new vehicles in February, the same number it sold in February 2011.

Joeten Motors saw a 50-percent spike in February sales from 10 last year to 15 this year. Joeten Motors is the authorized distributor of Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia.

Triple “J” Motors, the authorized dealer of Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mazda, posted an 8-percent sales increase in February, or from 13 last year to 14 this year.

The most saleable vehicles in February were Toyota Yaris and Hyundai Tucson with four sold units each.

Of the 48 new vehicles sold last month, 18 were cars, another 18 were SUVs, seven were vans and five were trucks.

Among cars, Toyota Yaris sold the most with four, followed by Hyundai Elantra with three. Also sold were two units each of Hyundai Accent, Mazda3, Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla. CADA also sold one unit each of Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis Cp and Hyundai Veloster.

Hyundai Tucson led the SUV sales with four units sold, followed by Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4 with three sold units each, and Toyota Highlander with two. Also sold were one unit each of Ford Escape, Ford Explorer, Nissan Murano, Nissan Rogue, Nissan Xterra and Toyota 4 Runner.

Toyota Sienna sold the most number of vans in February with three, followed by Ford E-Van with two. CADA sold one each of Mazda5 and Nissan Quest.

Among trucks, Toyota Tacoma sold two in February. Other trucks sold were one each of Ford E/F-Series, Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier.

CADA also sold 19 used or secondhand vehicles in February, bringing to 43 the total sold since January.
