Delta Air Lines supports the Saipan Marathon again this year as the official airline partner of the event.

The 7th Saipan Marathon will be held tomorrow, March 3, on Saipan with nearly 800 registrants.

The runners will be joined by Japanese TV crew and magazine writers to report on the event, which is jointly supported by Delta and the Marianas Visitors Authority.

As the only airline operating scheduled nonstop flights connecting Tokyo’s Narita Airport and Saipan, Delta has been working closely with MVA to promote the island as a travel and sports destination. Both parties provide support to Japanese media outlets to introduce Saipan to current and prospective travelers and promote the Saipan Marathon.

Delta has worked in coordination with MVA and travel agencies to produce attractive packaged tours targeting Japanese runners, which have increased numbers of Japanese participants in the Saipan Marathon from around 200 in 2005 to nearly 700 this year.

“Delta continues to put focus on our resort nonstop flights connecting Japan and Saipan,” Steven Crowdey, Delta’s general manager for Australia, Micronesia, and the Philippines commented. “We are honored to support the Saipan Marathon as a long standing partner, contributing to the Saipan economy and providing convenient nonstop flights to our important customers flying between Japan and Saipan.”
