Joshua Sasamoto submitted last week his resignation as corporate director of the Northern Marianas Housing Corp., according to a source.

Sasamoto’s resignation, which was tendered during Thursday’s board meeting, will be effective on March 10.

At the meeting, which began at past 10am, Sasamoto updated the board about Housing matters, including federal funding cuts for fiscal year 2013, before the board took a lunch break at noon.

The board convened at about 1pm to discuss Program and Housing Division updates, after which the board voted to meet in an executive session.

Saipan Tribune learned that the board resumed in regular session hours later. That was when Sasamoto informed the board about his plan to step down.

Calls and email to two board members, including board chair Marcie Tomokane, were not returned as of press time yesterday.

Sasamoto was instrumental in having the Commonwealth avail of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which provides funding for NMHC.
