NMC signs accord with Department of Defense

The Northern Marianas College has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. Department of Defense to establish a Voluntary Education Partnership to ensure that men and women who have served in the armed forces have access to quality postsecondary education opportunities, such as those offered at NMC.
The college signed the MOU on Feb. 1, 2012, and the DoD approved it shortly thereafter.
The new partnership allows service members to avail of the DoD Military Tuition Assistance program, which enables them to receive up to full tuition coverage by attending NMC. The program will also pay for other fees authorized by the college, as long as the total cost of attendance does not exceed $4,500 per year.
Institutions interested in a DoD Voluntary Education Partnership are required to sign an MOU in order to ensure familiarity with DoD policies regarding the enrollment of service members into an educational program. The MOU, once signed and approved by a DoD representative, is valid for five years.
“We want to ensure that we are doing everything we can to afford military personnel maximum access and convenience to our programs and services,” said NMC president Sharon Y. Hart.
The college offers several degree and certificate programs, including a bachelor of science degree in education (emphasis on elementary education, early childhood education, special education, rehabilitation and human services), associate degrees in business, business administration (emphasis on accounting, business management, or computer applications), liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and hospitality management.
