The Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association is putting on a beach volleyball youth clinic with some visiting professional players from the U.S., Japan, and New Zealand today on Fiesta Resort & Spa’s sand courts from 4pm to 6pm.

Some of this year’s guests of honor include Japan’s Hiroyo Kenada and Mengumi Murakami with their coach Tsuyoshi “Go” Mochizuki, Ty Loomis and John Carlucci of the U.S., and New Zealand’s Kurt Peters.

The seasoned pros will be featured in the upcoming Marianas Cup Pro-Am Tournament this weekend.

Notably, Mengumi won the women’s division last year with teammate Remi Sudo, while Kenada bagged a second place showing in 2010 with her partner Mitsumi Ozaki.

The free clinic is open to all players of ages 10 to 21; NMIVA membership is not required to participate.

By tradition, aside from Carlucci, the other four players will be featured in a professional exhibition match, for national bragging rights, scheduled for 5:30pm this Friday at Fiesta.

After conclusion of the expo, the foursome will find out who their respective amateur partners will be in the weekend main event via a raffle drawing at 7:30pm.

All three events, in addition to last weekend’s Inaugural Junior Marianas Cup tournament held in Guam, are part of the NMIVA’s 20th Annual Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival. The festival concludes with the 5th Annual Marianas Kids Cup on March 4, held also at Fiesta Resort.

Details of last week’s Junior Marianas Cup event will be released later this week.
