Pil Sun Kitami was declared the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s February Ace of the Month winner after the conclusion of the group’s monthly event held last Feb. 11 at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.

Kitami started off red hot and came into the turn in the lead with a 39 gross tally, the lowest score of the day on the front nine.

Kitami then held it steady on the back side with a 45 to finish with an respectable 84 gross total, and her 16 handicap left her with a 68 net count for this month’s top honors.

She is now qualified to compete in the CWA ‘s finale Ace of Aces tournament.

Kitami finished ahead of runner-up Mio Kim and third placer Terry Guerrero.

Kim scratched a 43 on the front nine and finished strong on the back with a 40 to edge out Kitami’s raw score by a stroke, however, Kim came up a couple strokes short after the handicap adjustment.

Guerrero hit the turn with a sturdy 42, but struggled after the turn. She pulled into the clubhouse after posting a 48 on the back for a gross count of 90 that worked into a 71 net total.

Notably, last month’s ace, Noriko Togawa, tied Kim’s field-low gross tally 83; she started with a 40 and finished with a 43, but settled for just a ninth place showing with a 79 net score.

A total of 17 golfers made up the field.

The CWGA utilizes a standard net score format, where a predetermined point system is tallied during the season.

First place is awarded 15 points, 14 for second and so on down through the top ten place finishers, and the rest receive a point for participation.

Established in March 2007, CWGA is a nonprofit organization founded to promote, encourage, and introduce women to the sport of golf in the CNMI. The group plays once a month leading up to its finale two-day event.

The date and venue of next month’s event is still being determined.
