The newly formed Marianas Sailing Club will be holding a free sailing clinic at the eighth annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival this Saturday.

The group will set up on the beach west of Tinian Port, with their 8-foot El Toro sailing dinghies for the free sailing clinic that will be held from 11am to 3pm.

According to club commodore David E. Johansen, the group intends to sail from Saipan with three 25-foot sailboats carrying approximately 20 people, arriving on Tinian Saturday morning.

The sailing clinic requires that sailors know how to swim to participate and are wearing a personal floatation device. The group will have some loaner flotation devices for those who do not have this equipment. The usual clinic involves a short water safety lecture and capsize/self rescue drills before the sailor is on his own.

The group will also bring some kayaks for rescue/water safety patrol in order to maintain the perimeter of the clinic.

The sailing clinic is free for anyone interested. For those who want to join the club, the annual dues are $25 for a single adult person or $40 per family unit. (PR)
