Tan sets swim record in 200m fly
Tsunami Saipan Swimming Center’s Angel Marie Tan has added a new entry to the CNMI record books after posting 3:01.62 in the 200m butterfly during the All Island Invitational 1.
Northern Marianas Swimming Federation certified Tan’s record time in the girls 11 to 12 during a meeting last night. The Tsunami Saipan swimmer made this feat during last month’s short meet at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi, but the club needed to wait for confirmation from NMSF to make the record official. No previous mark is entered in the girls 11 to 12 200m butterfly and in the past, it was up to NMSF to certify a record or not.
“I’m so happy to announce a new CNMI age group record. Northern Mariana Swimming Federation finally recognized Marie’s 200m fly time as the girls 11 12 CNMI age record. Congratulations to Marie and go for some more record,” Tsunami Saipan coach Hiro Kimura said in an email to Saipan Tribune.
The 200m butterfly mark is Tan’s seventh. Her six other records came from the 50m backstroke (35.92 seconds), 200m backstroke (2:53.96), 200m breaststroke (2:59.37), 50m breaststroke (39.06 seconds), 50m butterfly (34.39 seconds), and 400m individual medley (6:01.04).
Saipan Swim Club’s Myana Welch has the most records in the 11 to 12 age group with eight (50m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,5000m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, and 200m IM). Two more SSC swimmers are on the list with Grace Kimball owning the 100m freestyle mark (1:05.82/July 18, 2008) and Xenavee Pangelinan holding the 100m butterfly (1:18.17/Jan. 27, 1996).
Tan’s 200m butterfly mark was her first this year and was among the six records Tsunami Saipan swimmers made in last month’s meet. Ryuto Yanai, Lukas Kang, Miku Tammy, Kaito Yanai, and Kensuke Kimura also had record-breaking swims in the short competition. Ryuto Yanai logged a record in the boys U18 100m butterfly (1:22.17); Kang in the 100m backstroke (1:21.96); Tammy in the 800m freestyle (11:49.95); Kaito Yanai in the 200m breaststroke (2:51.79); and Kensuke Kimura in the 800m freestyle (9:12.98).
