WASHINGTON, D.C.—Guam Delegate to Congress Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced yesterday that the Close Up program in Guam has been awarded $1.05 million from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs Technical Assistance Fund. The grant will support Guam’s local chapter continue its efforts to provide hands-on civic education programs for students and teachers.

The Close Up Foundation is a national nonprofit organization, based in Washington, D.C., that promotes civic engagement among middle school and high school students across the country.

“The funding received today will help Close Up on Guam continue their key programs, such as the Guahan Youth Summit and the immersion program in Washington, D.C.,” said Bordallo. “Organizations such as Close Up help shape our island’s future leaders by providing the resources and knowledge needed to become informed and active members of our community. I thank Assistant Secretary Tony Babauta and the Department of Interior for supporting this program, and I look forward to meeting with more of our students from Guam during their upcoming trip to our nation’s capital.”
