For The Love Of Volleyball tourney set Saturday
Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association will be hosting the 4th Annual For The Love Of Volleyball tournament this weekend on the Hyatt Regency Saipan sand courts.
Both men’s and women’s divisions are being offered in a double-elimination format.
In the past, special prizes were awarded to the Top 2 place finishers.
Participants must be at least 16 years of age.
The entrance fee is set at $20 per player or $15 for NMIVA members.
Registration takes place courtside at 8:30am and participants should bring their own partners. Games tip off at 9am.
Standard FIVB two-person volleyball rules apply and the servers must alternate.
Game point will start out at 15 with a cap of 21. In the semifinals and championship matches game point will shift to 21 and be capped at 25.
Depending on the number of teams, organizers reserve the right to adjust the scoring parameters in order to finish all of the games in a timely fashion.
This year marks the second time the event will be held at the Hyatt.
The competition also serves as a good warm up event for the ever-popular Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival, slated from Feb. 22 to March 4.
Last year, Tyce Mister and Chris Nelson swept a seven-team men’s field, while Melody Matson and Amanda Clarkson triumphed undefeated over 10 other ladies’ couples.
