UBA/Docomo Island-wide Basketball Fest starts Feb. 18
The Unified Basketball Association is kicking off the 2012 Docomo Pacific Youth Island Wide Basketball Fest with a weekend tournament for players ages 15 and under starting Feb. 18 at the Garapan Basketball Court.
The three-leg spectacle also includes a 17-and-under division and a 25-and-under category.
The U17 event will commence following the U15 tourney on Feb. 25 and 26, while the U25 event takes the floor on March 3 and 4.
The main purpose of the series is to promote youth sports activities during the peak of basketball season. It can also serve as good practice for players that may be participating in some off-island competitions.
There is a 25U March Madness Pacific Regional Championships event in Guam coming up this March, while the highly anticipated 17U Micronesian Basketball Tournament tips off in June.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three place finishers.
All three events will utilize a double-elimination format.
The entrance fee to participate is only $50 per team for all divisions and rosters are limited to 12 players per squad.
The deadline to register is Thursday, Feb. 16.
Entrance forms can be obtained at the Safety 1st System office located along Middle Road, in Gualo Rai or at the Garapan Community and Development Center.
Docomo Pacific and the UBA, as well as partners Hoopaholics 670 and the 670 Rollers Basketball Club, sponsor the event.
For registration or more information contact UBA’s James Lee at 483-0290, Garapan Community Development Center’s Joe Diaz at 233-8978, or email unifiedbasketballassociation@gmail.com.
