Companies invited to join PIC’s Race around the River this Sat.
Pacific Islands Club expects to boost its duck sales days before the 2012 Duck Race for Cancer.
“I am sure we will surpass that number this week as it is closer to the race. We always sell a lot as race day approaches,” Sports and Activities manager and race director Glenn Policare told Saipan Tribune yesterday.
Duck Race for Cancer is PIC’s annual event where plastic ducks, sold for $5 each, are raced along the hotel resort’s Lazy River, for the top prize of $1,000. Proceeds from the event are donated to help fight cancer.
This year’s event, slated for Saturday, Feb. 11, at 6:30pm, is estimated yet again to draw hundreds of spectators.
Policare disclosed that they sold nearly 100 ducks at the Garapan Street Market last Thursday. “It was about as many as I expected to sell,” Policare said, adding that they will have another booth at the same site this week.
Saturday’s event will also feature the PIC Race Around the River, the corporate duck race that will involve four heats of six swimmers who will make their way around the 800-meter lazy river with their own inflatable duck. All swimming gear will be provided by PIC.
The top two participants from each one-lap heat will get a slot into the final heat of eight. The winning team earns a team building night of Laser Tag plus two cases of drinks for up to 30 persons at PIC’s Laser Tag Park.
To date, Policare said Island Apparel, Coca-Cola/Foremost, The Law Offices of Robert Torres, Docomo Pacific, JC Tenorio, Marianas Health Services, Trench Tech, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Ken Corp., G4S, and Saipan Seventh-day Adventist Clinic will be vying for the corporate duck race grand prize.
Policare noted that only 24 companies will be allowed to enter the Race Around the River challenge.
“There are still 11 slots left,” he said. “I am confident the other slots will fill in by the weekend.”
