GCA bumps off MHS1 in girls volleyball
Grace Christian Academy’s Lady Eagles moved into second place in the standings with a big win over Marianas High School as the Marinas Interscholastic Sports Organization’s girls volleyball season continued at the MHS Gymnasium.
In addition, Marinas Baptist Academy is riding high on its second straight win, while defending champion Saipan International School Lady Geckos remains in first place and improved its unbeaten streak to seven with a sound sweep of its junior varsity counterparts.
MHS’ Junior Dolphins (MHS2) received a forfeit victory over still absent Saipan Southern High School (0-7). However, the latter is expected to take the floor for the very first time today. MHS2 has just two wins with five losses on its card.
GCA came out swinging in the tiebreaker and took the first set, 25-16, and held strong in the second pairing, 25-18, for the nod. The MHS1 Lady Dolphins managed to take the third set, 15-9, but were knocked down into the third spot after absorbing its second loss in seven games.
Notably, GCA settled for third place behind MHS1 last year, but now sits alone in second place with six wins and loss on its card.
Meanwhile, MBA liked the taste of last week’s win so much they kept it rolling with nice sweep over KHS, 25-16, 25-16, and 15-11.
MBA started the season slow, but have really shown improved signs of gelling together as a group. The two squads now share identical records with three wins with four losses.
Finally, it was just another day at the office for SIS1 as they had little trouble surpassing its junior varsity crew in all three sets, 25-12, 25-17 and 15-6.
SIS1 is the lone undefeated team with seven wins, while SIS 2 fell to a 3-4 slate.
The season continues at 4pm with MHS1 tipping off against MBA on the north court with GCA facing KHS on the south end. Then at 5pm SIS2 hosts MHS2 on the north square with SSHS debuting against SIS1 in a home draw on the south side.
