A man who was recently arrested for allegedly firing a gun during an argument with his girlfriend was arrested again Thursday night on charges of harassing two witnesses in a prior case.

Juan B. Roberto, 52, was taken to the Superior Court yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing on charges of contempt of court and disturbing the peace.

He was initially not allowed to post bail but associate judge David A. Wiseman later set the amount at $100,000 cash, saying he finds the suspect an extreme danger to the community. He cited Roberto’s prior cases, including his alleged admission to firing three rounds of an unregistered gun.
“You
never listen to the court,” Wiseman told the defendant.

Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that two women who are witnesses and victims in a prior case involving Roberto were at their residence in Dandan on Thursday night when Roberto began shouting in front of his house, next to the two women’s house.

Roberto then allegedly drove his pickup truck recklessly in front and around the women’s residence. He accelerated the engine, causing the tires to spin, burning rubber. At the same time he was shouting out the window of his truck.

One of the women tried to leave with her daughter but, as she was backing her car out of the garage, Roberto approached her side of the car holding a coconut and mimed throwing the coconut at the rear end of the car.

The other woman remained inside the house and locked the front door.

The woman in the car quickly left, at the same time calling a detective on her cell phone.

Police officers responded to the scene and arrested Roberto. Both victims were shaking with fear and were on the verge of tears during the police interview.

On Jan. 22, 2012, Roberto was arrested at his residence for domestic violence. He allegedly admitted to firing off three live rounds of an illegal firearm in his house in the presence of his girlfriend.

Assistant attorney general Eileen Escudero Wisor said the police later found a .22 caliber Ruger rifle at the crime scene and three shell casings, along with several 9mm ammunitions.

In addition, she said, police recovered marijuana plants and paraphernalia of marijuana and methamphetamine or “ice.”
