Raffy Piamonte was named 2011 Fil-Taga Golfer of the Year after ruling the season-ending competition at the Marianas Country Club.

Piamonte shot a net 74 in the second round of the final event at the Marpi course on Jan. 22 for a two-round total of 145. He carded a net 71 in the opening round played on Jan. 15 at the Kingfisher Golf Links after tallying a 53 and 50 on the front and back nines. In the second round, Piamonte logged a 53 in the first nine holes and a 49 in the last.

For his feat, Piamonte took home a trophy, $300 cash prize, and free round of golf courtesy of MCC Piamonte edged co-runners up Ruben Avendano and Rene Batallones by a stroke, while William Retardo rounded out the Top 4 with a combined net score of 149.

Eighteen of the 21 registered golfers completed both rounds.

Sunday’s event also coupled as the club’s January Ace of the Month tournament.

James Mitchell and Richard Atalig topped a field of 28 golfers to take the January Ace titles. Since over 20 participants turned out for the 2012 season-opening event, by rule the tournament was divided into two groups.

B field’s Mitchell posted a 41 on the front nine and finished the round with a 51 on the back for a gross score of 93 that adjusted into a net count of 70.

Atalig grossed a 42 on the first nine holes and pulled into the clubhouse with another 42 for a raw card of 84, which was calculated into a net 71. The pair won modest cash prizes and entrees to the 2012 finale tournament.

Batallones settled for another runner-up finish as he came just one shot short of taking the January Ace honors. He grossed an 82 for a net score of 73, while Retardo turned in a gross 81 for a net 74 that tied Piamonte, Randy Tudela, and Jess Yumul for fourth place. Tudela and Yumul grossed a 101 and 104, respectively.

Filtaga’s next event is slated for Feb. 19 at MCC.
