Do a little research first
I am a little late with this response but it took me a while to stop laughing. I don’t think I know this Keith Brooks who insinuated that I should leave my home of over 25 years to return to the U.S. mainland. In his letter he described his upbringing in a Brahmin-style culture, his travel to other countries, his respect for local people, his belief that locals (whoever that might be) have the right to determine their destiny, my apparent disdain for the local community, among other wild and crazy things. What is funny is he got all of this from a lawsuit that he read about in the paper. Amazing!
Well, Mr. Brooks, let me try to educate you about me just a little. I have lived in the Commonwealth for over 25 years. I am hardly a guest of any kind. I have contributed to this community both in words and deeds. I have a child who was born and raised here. This is my home. I have also traveled and lived in the U.S. and other countries. I have also read the CNMI Constitution, the Covenant, and the U.S. Constitution.
There are some other things you apparently aren’t aware of. First, the CNMI is not a country. It is a U.S. Commonwealth. In the event you are confused about that just look anywhere and you will see the Stars and Stripes on display. Second, nowhere in the lawsuit is Article 12 mentioned. I simply think that the issues of the indigenous people of the Marianas should not impinge on my rights as an American. Nor does the lawsuit mention forcing anyone to do anything. My feelings about Article 12 are my own, but a hint—my child is a NMD. So, the next time you feel the absolute need to run off at the mouth or, in this case, the pen, perhaps you might do a little research on, well, everything.
