MHS1 sweeps 1st round in girls soccer
The undefeated Marianas High School varsity Lady Dolphins (MHS1) are way out in front in the standings as the first leg of the 2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization double-round robin season concluded Thursday at the Oleai Sports Complex field.
MHS1 shut out the Kagman High School Lady Ayuyus, 4-0, in Thursday’s match to stretch its unbeaten streak to three.
Kagman is tied with the Saipan Southern High School Lady Manta Rays with identical 1-1-1 win-loss-draw cards. MHS’ Junior Dolphins (MHS2) is winless after three games; four teams make up the field.
MHS1 got right to work against the Lady Ayuyus on Thursday and cracked open a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the match.
MHS1’s Alodia Lumasang broke the ice in the third minute off an assist by Jeraldine Castillo.
Castillo later found her way to the back of the net for a solo goal around the 15-minute mark, but KHS’ defense managed to stop the bleeding until the break.
Then right after the kick off, MHS1’s Liezel Tiples fired a quick hit at the start of the second half off a rebounded shot from a teammate at midfield, and the Lady Dolphins’ Castillo went on to boot in another score for good measure with about five minutes left in regulation.
After one round of matches, MHS1 has netted nine goals in three games and has allowed just one goal.
SSHS holds a tally of four goals for and against its favor; KHS has scored four goals and given up five; and MHS2 has yet to fire home a strike, but has allowed 10 goals thus far in the season.
Round 2 kicks off on Tuesday at 4:30pm with MHS1 squaring off against sister team MHS2 at the Oleai field.
