Central Statistics Division director Ivan Blanco is now the deputy secretary of the Department of Commerce, replacing Sixto Igisomar who was confirmed by the Senate and sworn in by the governor as Commerce secretary on Wednesday.

Replacing Blanco as CSD director is Perry Inos Jr. effective Monday, Jan. 30.

Blanco said yesterday that the Central Statistics Division staff has been hardworking and efficient, making it easy for any transition.

“I am still around so I will be able to help the division in any way I can,” said Blanco, as he called on his former staff and colleagues to extend their support to the new CSD director.

He said the government’s prevailing wage survey is being prioritized, so other reports such as the consumer price index report has been delayed. He said they expect the CPI report to be released in March.

Another recent change at Commerce is the creation of a temporary, federally funded unit called the Rate Review for Obamacare, headed by John Blanco.

Ivan Blanco said this unit will, among other things, review the insurance rate increases that insurance firms would implement under President Obama’s health care reform.
