A man allegedly assaulted early Tuesday morning his common-law wife and admitted to police that he planted three marijuana plants at his residence in Kagman III.

Steve Peter Mettao Jr., 42, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and illegal possession of controlled substance.

Mettao was set to appear Wednesday afternoon for a bail hearing. A $5,000 cash bail was initially imposed for his temporary release.

Police said that Mettao came home drunk on Monday at 11:22pm and pushed his common-law wife to the ground during an argument. He also allegedly grabbed a wooden stick and a backpack and swung them at her. The victim was not hit. She ran to a neighbor’s house where she used a phone to call the police.

When a police officer responded to the house, he found the victim’s cell phone broken in two and lying on the ground.

The officer also found three young marijuana plants in three small vases at the residence. Police said that Mettao admitted to planting the marijuana plants for his use.
