Prosecutor: Man admits firing gun
Juan B. Roberto, who was arrested over the weekend over a domestic argument with his girlfriend at his residence in Dandan, admitted firing an unregistered shotgun three times, according to a prosecutor.
In the government’s opposition to Roberto’s request to modify bail, assistant attorney general Eileen Escudero Wisor said the evidence against the suspect is overwhelming.
Wisor said that Roberto admitted to firing off three live ammunition rounds with an illegal firearm in his house, without provocation, in the presence of his girlfriend.
She said this was corroborated, with police finding a .22 caliber Ruger rifle at the crime scene and three empty shells, along with several 9mm ammunitions.
Also, police recovered marijuana plants and paraphernalia for marijuana and methamphetamine or “ice,” Wisor said.
“The Commonwealth pleads with the court to recognize that a situation such as this exemplifies the meeting of the standard that is required to deny a bail modification: A danger to the community. In fact, there could rarely be a circumstance construed to be more dangerous than this to the community,” Wisor said.
Superior Court associate judge Joseph N. Camacho, however, modified the bail, placing Roberto under house arrest. Camacho said the firearm has been seized from Roberto and a subsequent search at his house yielded no other firearms.
He allowed Roberto to post $1,000 cash and $9,000 unsecured bond.
