Five arson fires in a week
Crime Stoppers is seeking the community’s assistance for information on several structure fires that occurred within the past week.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, there were two fires. The first fire, reported at 9:40pm, was at the abandoned MGM Garment factory (a four-story concrete building), San Antonio. While DPS firefighters were suppressing that fire, another fire was reported at 11pm, on two empty single-story structures behind the Monte Carlo Club in Chalan Piao. All structures involved were damaged and destroyed by the fire.
On Saturday morning, Jan. 14, at about 1am, DPS Fire personnel responded to an abandoned one-story tin house structure fire by the Toha Supermarket in San Antonio. At approximately 2:45am, another fire was reported near Sugar Dock, Susupe. A two-story abandoned house was on fire. At about 5:30am, Fire personnel responded to a third structure fire that morning. It was an unoccupied single dwelling building located behind Car Quest, Chalan Kanoa.
All structure fires are on abandoned or unoccupied buildings. Fire investigators suspect arson in these fires pending further investigation.
