Usual top finishers at SDA bike race
The heavy favorites in the Seventh Day Adventist School’s MTB/Road bike fundraiser did not disappoint in yesterday’s race, as Butch Sublemente and Mieko Carey ruled their respective divisions.
Sublemente prevailed in the MTB championship course, completing the race from and to Paupau Beach in less than an hour. Organizers had technical problems in listing the times of finishers, but Sublemente in a telephone interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday said he finished the race less than an hour (57:25/unofficial time), less than a minute ahead of Brian Morris (58:04). Rounding off the Top 3 in the MTB championship course was Lewie Tenorio (58:30).
In the women’s division, Dawn Hammermeister won over Susan Marchitti.
Bikers entered in the MTB championship course pedaled up to, FEBC, Kimikaze trail, Autobahn, Santa Clause Lane, Banzai, and back to Paupau Beach.
In the road bike open/mixed race, which had riders negotiating Radar Tower, Suicide Cliff, Bird Island, The Grotto, and Banzai Cliff before returning to Paupau Beach, Carey completed the race under the one-hour mark and defeated two male riders—Nap Dizon and Rene Calage.
Five other bikers reigned supreme in their respective divisions—Bob Oropesa, Regina Sebial, Rolando Canipas, Amy Sletten, and Enrique Suba.
Oropesa and Sebial dominated the men’s and women’s MBT open races. Oropesa won over Aldrin Sta. Ana and Charlie Sendin, while Sebial edged Joan Salazar. The MTB open course had riders passing FEBC (twice), Kimikaze trail, Autobahn, Santa Clause Lane, and Banzai
In the MTB beginners, Canipas outraced Rolly Verzon and Manny Serrano, while Sletten defeated Rima Yamagishi and Mamiko Oshima-Berger. MTB beginners cruised past FEBC, Bird Island, Grotto, and Banzai Cliff before going back to Paupau Beach.
In the MTB sports, which brought riders to FEBC, Kimikaze trail, left to Grotto Road, Santa Claus Lane, and Banzai Trail, Suba finished ahead of Rosalio Quintos and Ariel Lansangan.
Meanwhile, SDA’s 7th and 8th graders would like to thank the following for supporting the race: Saipan Pro Bike, Ben Babauta, Pacific Islands Club, Herman’s Bakery RIDE NMI, and Saipan SDA Clinic.
Over 100 bikers joined the race aimed at raising funds for SDA students who will have an educational trip this year.
