The Marianas High School varsity Lady Dolphins bested the Lady Manta Rays of Saipan Southern High School, 4-0, in Thursday’s Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization girls soccer match at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

MHS1’s second win solidified its first place ranking in the standings, while SSHS now holds a loss and a draw on its card. The Kagman High School Lady Ayuyus are in second place with a 1-0-0 win-draw-loss slate.

Lady Dolphins forward Jeraldine Castillo scored on a penalty kick as a result of a handball in the goalie box about five minutes into the match and then netted a second goal in the final seconds of the first half off an assist by Melody Johnson.

The Lady Dolphins’ strikers relentlessly attacked the Lady Manta Rays’ defense for the majority of the match and let off a number of intense shots on goal.

MHS’ Johnson nabbed another assist to Alodia Lumasag six minutes into the start of the second half and minutes later found the back of the net herself to shift the Lady Dolphins into cruise control for the remainder of the contest.

With MHS clicking on all cylinders the way it has just two games into the season, its vie for a title defense seems to be already looming in the distance.

The season continues at the Oleai field at 4:30pm on Tuesday with SSHS taking on the MHS junior Lady Dolphins (0-2-0). Four teams make up this year’s MISO girls soccer competition.
