SIS1, MHS1 still lead girls volleyball
Saipan International School and Marianas High School’s varsity squads remain atop the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization girls volleyball standings after the conclusion of matches Thursday at the MHS Gymnasium.
The SIS1 Lady Geckos brushed off the Lady Ayuyus of Kagman High School (1-3) in three sets, 25-16, 25-5, and 15-7 to stretch its unbeaten streak to four, while MHS1 (4-0) received a forfeit win off a no-show by Saipan Southern High School (0-4).
Meanwhile, the Grace Christian Academy Lady Eagles remained hot on their trail after sweeping the SIS juniors (SIS2), 25-12, 25-18, and 15-4.
GCA holds a win-loss slate of 3-0, while SIS2 dropped to an even 2-2 card.
In other results, the MHS juniors (MHS2) snuck past Marians Baptist Academy thanks largely to tardiness of the latter.
MBA’s late arrival forced them to forfeit the opening set and MHS2 grinded out a 27-25 win in the second set before dropping the third set to MBA, 15-13.
MHS2 and MBA sit tied with KHS in the standings with identical 1-3 win-loss cards.
The season continues on Tuesday at 4pm with the SIS2 squaring off against KHS on the north court and MBA taking on the SIS varsity in the south end.
Then at 5pm, the MHS1 plays host to its MHS2 counterparts on the north square as GCA invites SSHS on the south side.
