In honor of National Nutrition Month in March, PSS Food and Nutrition Services is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Student Healthy Recipe Contest. This year’s theme is “Get Your Plate In Shape” and will focus on the healthy ChooseMyPlate.gov guidelines that replaced the Food Guide Pyramid. Recipes will feature local produce, and will be judged at a cook-off in late March. Public and private schools (K-12) that would to like participate are encouraged to contact PSS nutritionist Dianne Esplin, RD, at dianne.esplin@cnmipss.org for complete rules. The deadline for schools to submit their intent to participate is Monday, Jan. 23, at 4:30pm. Students who are interested should contact their principal. (PR)
[B]FOA’s latest production feature ‘The Miracle Worker’[/B]All Friends of the Arts members and friends are being invited to watch their latest performance, The Miracle Worker, a moving story of Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan, this next weekend, Jan. 20 and 21 at 7pm and Jan. 22 at 3pm. All shows will be at the MHS Dolphin Theater (Bldg. T). Tickets cost $12 for FOA members,$15 for non-member adults and $8 for students and children over 4. The Associated Students of Northern Marianas College, the student government body, is inviting all NMC students and their families and friends to attend a student assembly this Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at the field area in front of the NMC Gymnasium. The assembly will be held from 9am to 12:30pm.
Participants of the assembly will hear from inspirational speakers, including civil rights advocate Dr. Amos Brown, and learn how to get involved in NMC activities. In addition, there will be giveaways given throughout the event and free refreshments will be served. [B]Air Force training on Farallon de Mendinilla[/B]The U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Mendinilla on Jan. 13, from 8am to 3pm. The public—especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators—are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Mendinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants. (USN)
