Nothing on cost-cutting

The Tribune’s January 7-8 issue headlined that only one of 40 laws passed during calendar year 2011 was revenue-generating. More significant, however, is the fact that none of the laws passed during that time were cost-cutting.

Legislators apparently have not yet come to understand that imposing more fees, charges, taxes on an already stressed populace is not the answer, that the way out of budget shortfalls and deficits lies in cutting down on or cutting out things that involve layouts of cash.

Until they do understand that, and take action accordingly, the economy is not going to improve, regardless of how many laws they pass.
