Last month I had some stomach pain and went to THC. The doctor was there and requested for a urinalysis. The nurses said I had kidney stones and the doc said to put me on an IV and prescribed pain medication. They then told me to drink a lot of water. I went home and did exactly that. The next day I felt a little better, until later that night I had a fever. I then took the last pain medication and went to sleep. Early the next morning I had pain everywhere and I could barely walk. I asked my husband to take me to the hospital.

The nurses asked me to pee in the cup again and then as I stood up I told my husband that I was going to pass out. Luckily my husband was there to catch me and carried me to the bed and screamed for the nurses and asked if they had called the doctor. Arley Long came in and ordered an ultrasound. The technician said that there was fluid. The helicopter came and it was meant for someone else but because my blood pressure kept dropping, Arley sent me first. When we reached CHC, I went into surgery right away. Turns out that it was not kidney stones; my spleen had ruptured. Dr. Young said I was very lucky. He said two more hours and there would have been nothing they could do. A couple of months ago, I fell on my son’s bike and landed where my ribs are. There was a bruise, but I thought nothing of it because it went away. Little by little it got infected until it ruptured.

I would like to thank the following people who have helped us in our time of need: The Mayor’s Office, The Care Club, Sen. Francisco Q. Cruz, Uncle Rem Diaz, Auntie Deb, my sister-in-laws Elaine and Marie, Boy and Marian for watching and taking care of my children, my stepmom Jess and my family, my co-workers, and for all the people who had me in their thoughts and prayers, and most especially for my husband. Without him it would have been impossible to get through this whole thing. And to Dr. Young, if it wasn’t for you I would not be here. Thank you all very much I will be forever grateful.
