Registration is now open for elementary schools that want to join the Rotary Club of Saipan’s 8th Annual Parade of Books, scheduled this April to coincide with the National Library Week.

The annual event, to be held on April 14, Saturday at 2pm at the Marianas High School Gymnasium, is part of Rotary’s effort to encourage reading and literary creativity.

The 2012 Parade of Books is also sponsored by Delta Air Lines, Pacific Islands Club, DFS Galleria, and Marianas Variety.

2012 Parade of Books coordinator and Rotarian Reina Camacho said this year’s competition will focus on books and stories that promote the values of Rotary, including service above self, trust, honesty, fairness, and friendship.

“We are super excited to see what the school teams will be able to produce from this,” said Camacho.

The first place winner will bring home $1,000 cash, second place for $750, third place for $500, fourth place for $300, fifth place for $200, and consolation prizes of $100 each.

The 47-member team of Oleai Elementary School bagged first place last year with their remarkable interpretation of Mulan, a tale of a Chinese female warrior.
