The islands’ triathletes will have their hands full in the opening quarter of 2012 as 15 events are lined up in the first three months of the year.

First up for members of the triathlon community is the XTERRA/Tagaman Enticer 1, which will be held this Saturday Start/finish line and race time will be announced before the weekend event kicks off.

Then on Jan. 14, the XTERRA Trail Run 1 will take place, followed by the Tagaman Swim on Jan. 21. A day after the Tagaman swim, triathletes are then invited to join the Seventh Day Adventist School-hosted MTB/road race at Paupau Beach.

From bikes, triathletes will switch to their running shoes for the Marianas Coffee Trail Run, which is set for Jan. 28 and will start and end at the American Memorial Park.

The second of a series of XTERRA/Tagaman Enticer will be held on Feb. 4, followed by the Northern Passage bike race on Feb. 12, XTERRA Trail Run 2 on Feb. 18, and the Saipan Swim Club Meek and Mighty Swim on Feb. 28.

For March, the first four events will be in preparation for the 2012 XTERRA Saipan Championship and Tagaman Triathlon. Topping the list is the Saipan Festival of Races, which will feature a marathon, half marathon, and 10K and will all be held on March 3.

The third and last XTERRA/Tagaman Enticer will follow next on March 10, while participants in the XTERRA and Tagaman will have a chance for a pre-ride of the courses on March 17 and 18, respectively.

Triathletes will have about a week of rest before they compete in the 2012 XTERRA Saipan Championship, which is scheduled for March 24. Then the last event for the first quarter of 2012 will be the Tagaman Triathlon (March 31).

Members of the sports community are encouraged to join the pre-XTERRA/Tagaman events, as all proceeds from these races will go to the two biggest triathlon competitions in the CNMI. Entrance fees for the Enticers and Tagaman swim and rides are only $5. Other events have their separate registration fees. For the SDA race, entrance fee is only $10, $30 for Coffee Trail, $20 for Northern Passage, and $55 for marathon, and $45 in the half marathon and 10K in the festival of runs.

Details of these races will be released as events near.
