WASHINGTON, D.C.—Guam Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo was reassured by a recent announcement that the Government of Japan has delivered its Environmental Impact Statement on plans to develop a Futenma Replacement Facility in northern Okinawa. The report was delivered to the Okinawa Prefectural Government early Wednesday morning.

“The Government of Japan continues to make concrete progress toward resolving issues in developing a Futenma Replacement Facility in Okinawa,” said Bordallo. “This Environmental Impact Statement is an important step forward with the realignment of Marines in Japan.  These steps by the Japanese government are important to showing their efforts to resolve political impasses in Okinawa, and this important action builds on Prime Minister Noda’s commitment to achieving ‘tangible progress’ on a Futenma Replacement Facility.  I continue to work with my colleagues in Congress and officials at DOD to ensure that the U.S. fulfills its commitments under the Guam International Agreement.” (PR)
